A piercing is only in the broadest sense a wound, but in contrast to cuts or abrasions, this wound, understood in the broadest sense, keeps the sinus tract open. This is done through piercing jewelry. Cleaning and maintenance of piercing wounds is especially important.
It is very important that you wash your hands at the beginning of your piercing. Otherwise, there may be unwanted results! The fluid flowing from the wound during the needle tract should be dried and then glued to the edge of the wound, forming a yellowish crust. This must be broken, as the area could attract germs in this case. It only works after the bark has softened. You can use hot water for this. If this is not the case, you can use a pH-neutral gel, but by using it, the liquid must be prevented from entering the duct. You can use a cotton swab to remove the bark.
Many talk about these things, but few act. We better guide you with some practical tips:
It is often said that disinfectants should be used. This is very debatable because some have harmful effects on the skin and many of them are not suitable for long-term use. Other solutions would be alcohol or Kodan with hydrogen peroxide. I’m not saying it doesn’t help, I’m just saying that these products are not necessarily necessary for a normal cleaning of the wound. Hydrogen peroxide is good if the wound is inflamed and the canal needs to be cleaned. Betaisodone should only be used for inflammation, not for other useless purposes. Mouthwash, such as Listerine, should only be used for a short period of time and no more than 3 times a day. Bepantene can also cleanse, but it is not special for piercing, nor does it speed up the healing process. If you want to reduce the healing time, do not use ointment. What you can use safely is salt water or chamomile bath. If something is not enough, you can also use Octenisept (please only 2 weeks).
You’ve probably heard many times that you need to remove your jewelry so that the piercing doesn’t widen, but with high-quality material, this can’t happen. If the wound is stimulated again and again, healing will be delayed.
Anyone who takes these things into account will be delighted with their piercing for a long time.
