Facial piercings.
Positioning, style, healing.

From nostril, septum, and bridge to eyebrow, lip, and tongue, each position has different anatomical and care requirements.

What types of facial piercings exist?

The most popular are nasal piercings, those of the lips, eyebrow, and tongue. Positioning must be chosen according to anatomy, style, jewellery type, and impact on surrounding tissues.

Complete guide

A visible area.A decision that must be adapted to anatomy.

Facial piercings are not chosen just by photo. Nose shape, lip thickness, eyebrow fold, and teeth or gum position can influence the result.

Popular types of facial piercing.

Each area has its own anatomy, jewellery, and healing rhythm.

Nose

Nostril.

It is done on the wing of the nose and can later be worn with a stud or ring after healing.

Nose

Septum.

It is positioned in the suitable soft tissue between cartilages, not through thick cartilage.

Nose

Bridge.

It is a surface piercing placed on the bridge of the nose and may have a higher risk of migration.

Lip

Labret and Vertical Labret.

The classic labret passes into the mouth interior, while the Vertical Labret remains on the outside of the lip.

Upper lip

Medusa and Monroe.

Medusa is central, above the lip, and Monroe is positioned laterally.

Eyebrow

Surface piercing.

Requires sufficient tissue and protection from snagging, makeup, and friction.

Tongue

Vertical piercing.

The jewellery passes through the tongue and requires monitoring of swelling, hygiene, and contact with teeth.

Frenulum

Smiley and Marley.

These are anatomy-dependent positions, and contact with teeth and gums must be evaluated.

Cheek

Cheek piercing.

It is a complex procedure, with healing and swelling more difficult to manage.

Healing differs from one area to another.

Estimates are not guarantees. Pressure, movement, jewellery material, and care can alter duration.

Nostril

Usually, a few months.

Complete healing may take longer than it appears externally; premature changing can irritate the channel.

Septum

Often faster than thick cartilage.

Correct positioning in the soft area influences comfort and healing.

Bridge

Risk of migration.

Being a surface piercing, thinning of the skin and position changes must be monitored.

Lip

Initial swelling.

Jewellery must allow space for inflammation and may require professional shortening later.

Tongue

The first days are important.

Swelling can affect speech and eating, and oral hygiene must be carefully maintained.

Eyebrow

Protection against snagging.

Makeup, towels, and clothes can irritate or traumatise the area.

Old recommendations about dairy are not universal rules.

There is no general rule that all dairy products must be eliminated after an oral piercing.

More important is to avoid alcohol, tobacco, very hot or irritating foods, and to follow the hygiene instructions received.

ORAL
Oral hygieneRinse as recommended and maintain careful brushing.
ALC
AlcoholCan irritate tissue and affect the healing process.
SMOKE
SmokingCan delay healing and increase the risk of complications.
DENT
Teeth and gumsOral jewellery can cause trauma if too long or poorly positioned.

Very rare or high-risk piercings.

The fact that a procedure is technically possible does not mean it is recommended.

Uvula

Piercing in the uvula.

It is extremely rare, difficult to monitor, and may involve significant risks for the airways and swallowing.

Austin Bar

Transverse piercing at the tip of the nose.

Requires suitable anatomy and assessment of pressure, migration, and scarring risks.

Cheek

Piercing in the cheek.

May have significant swelling and a higher risk of damage to tissues and salivary ducts.
