When it is healed
your piercing?
Find out the average recovery times for each area and how lifestyle and diet correctly influence your healing.
When can a piercing be considered healed?
A piercing is healed when the channel is stable, without persistent pain, progressive swelling, unusual discharge, or sensitivity to movement. The external appearance may seem normal before the deep tissue is fully restored.
Recovery is individual.
Healing time varies depending on the area, anatomy, care, mechanical trauma, and general condition. The values on this page are indicative.
Every body is uniqueTime depends on several complex factors
It depends on your immune system, the placement of the jewellery, and crucially, the constant care you give to your daily cleaning routine.
Healing factors.
Healing is influenced by several factors, including sleep, smoking, stress, diet, existing conditions, and how the area is protected.
How long does it take to heal, on average?
Placement directly dictates the way blood flow is restored and the skin's mechanical reaction.
Ear (Lobe)
A piercing in the earlobe usually needs about 6–8 weeks for initial healing.
Tongue
A tongue piercing can initially stabilise in about 4–8 weeks, but progress varies from person to person.
Ear (Cartilage)
Piercings through the ear cartilage may need about 6–12 months for complete healing.
Navel & Nipple
Piercings in the navel and nipple may require about 6–12 months, sometimes longer, depending on anatomy and care.
Complete guide to times by area.
Check the information below to understand how your piercing's progress works.
How long does it take to heal a navel piercing?
A navel piercing may need approximately 6–12 months for full healing. Friction from clothing, body position, and accidental snagging can prolong the process.
How long does it take to heal an ear piercing?
The earlobe usually needs about 6–8 weeks, while cartilage can require 6–12 months. Jewellery should not be changed just because the area appears healed on the surface.
What are the times for Eyebrow, Nose, and Lips?
Indicatively, the eyebrow may require 2–4 months, the nostril 4–6 months, the septum 2–4 months, and the lip 2–3 months. Anatomy, jewellery, and care can alter these intervals.
Are these times valid for everyone?
No. The times are indicative. If pain, redness, or swelling increase, or if fever or purulent discharge appears, seek medical evaluation.
